Chatham 2.0 Pop Up Event

Chatham Development Corporation will host the Chatham 2.0 Community Pop Up event from Friday, April 29th to Sunday, May 1st at 744 E. 79th Street. Prof. Monica Chadha curated the displays with IIT Architecture students, through Urban Activators, an initiative affiliated with the students.

The organization will transform two empty storefronts on 79th and Evans into a community and family friendly environment for three days of fun. These temporary activities are intended to generate long-term retail and programming opportunities in the Chatham neighborhood. Chatham DevCorp is providing new and different activities and vendors to the community as part of an initiative to generate positive foot traffic to the local vendors of the community. Please join the organization in the festivities of this monumental Community Pop Up event.

The weekend long event will kick off with an evening of live music and painting on Friday night from 6p-9p with music provided by Jeff Gibbs and the Quartet. Saturday programming includes a Sip and Paint class with artist Xeno and Open Mic Set hosted by local Stann Champion and Roots Rock Society. Sunday programming will include two yoga classes from Monica Swope of Learning Dimensions. The storefront will host fifteen local vendors.

Architect and College of Architecture adjunct faculty Monica Chadha founder of Civic Projects has provided the design of curated displays with Urban Activators, an initiative affiliated with the students at the Illinois Institute of Technology. IIT IPRO Students and College of Architecture Students designed and built the first pop up in Bronzeville, Summer 2014.

LISC has generously provided funding to Civic Projects and Wood Finishing Solutions for fabrication of these displays.
