ILLINOIS TECH GIVING DAY 2019

Architectural and landscape architectural education at Illinois Tech combine top-tier educators and enhanced educational resources with a setting in an unparalleled urban laboratory and associations with the top practices in the world. Our commitment encompasses the needs of our South Side Chicago neighborhood, our city, and its inhabitants. Our mission incorporates the values of design excellence, technical expertise, and the advancement of professional practice and educational significance. Our goal is to graduate highly qualified professionals who are ethical, thoughtful, and informed creators of buildings, landscapes, and related environments.

Of course, achieving this goal relies on the gifts of alumni, faculty, students, parents, and friends of Illinois Tech that afford us the ability to enrich our facilities and evolve our offerings, all for the benefit of our students.

That’s why we’re hosting our annual Giving Day, a 48-hour, campus-wide fundraising initiative March 14–15, which happens to coincide with another great campus tradition: Pi Day, that yearly celebration of that wonderful, infinite ratio that’s vital to mathematics, science, engineering, and, yes, architecture.

Giving Day is your opportunity to help us do something great for our students and Illinois Tech. In years past we have raised nearly $900,000 for the university from over 1,000 donors.

Why Should You Support the College of Architecture?

History-Making Curriculum

Iconic modernist Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, once a director at Bauhaus, became head architect at Illinois Tech in 1938, meticulously crafting a curriculum and laying out what has become the standard pedagogy. The architecture program Mies created guided some of the most iconic architects in the following decades—Phyllis Lambert, Helmut Jahn, and Hans Hollein to name a few—and the guiding principles of his work still inspire the students and faculty at the College of Architecture today, ensuring our continuing influence on the architectural world.

Hands-On Learning

What helps set Illinois Tech’s College of Architecture apart from other programs are its high-end facilities, including a materials lab and a laser lab, that are equipped with state-of-the-art machinery. These facilities provide all students with immersive, hands-on skills and experiences that go well beyond what can be taught in only lectures and books.

Giving Back to Chicago

The work we do is bigger than just Illinois Tech, and your gift doesn't only benefit its students, it benefits our community. The College of Architecture is dedicated to considering and addressing the challenges and needs of our neighborhood and all of Chicago, from conducting research in sustainable design to enhancing public infrastructure, and by donating this Giving Day, you’re helping us with our mission to improve the city we proudly call home.
