Modern in the Middle: Book Launch and Conversation with Professor Michelangelo Sabatino

A recording of this event can be viewed here.

On October 15 the College of Architecture and Mies van der Rohe Society will host a presentation of Modern in the Middle: Chicago Houses 1929–1975, co-authored by IIT Architecture Professor Michelangelo Sabatino and architectural historian and preservationist Susan Benjamin. The book details 50 Modernist homes in the greater Chicago area––many of them designed by IIT Architecture alumni––designed and built between 1929 and 1975.

The evening will include a panel discussion, moderated by College of Architecture Dean Reed Kroloff, and will include guests photographer Jeanne Moutoussamy-Ashe and architect Margaret McCurry. Each of them grew up in homes that their fathers designed in the Chatham and Beverly neighborhoods of Chicago, and these houses are among those detailed in the book.

The discussion will begin at 5:30 p.m. CST and will be hosted virtually. To register for the event, visit the Mies Society website; registrants will receive an email a day before the event with the Zoom link and information to enter. More details about Modern in the Middlecan be found here.
