NOMASiit Receives Honorable Mention for Chapter of the Year

On October 17 the National Organization of Minority Architects held its annual conference and awards program, which honors professional and student members for excellence in architectural skill and leadership. This year Illinois Institute of Technology College of Architecture’s chapter, NOMASiit, received an honorable mention for Student Chapter of the Year.

According to the NOMA, it looks to honor chapters with regular and robust activities, support for student members, contributions to its greater community, and unique and innovative programming.

The NOMASiit chapter was re-established after a hiatus by IIT Architecture students in 2018 to provide more networking opportunities and collaborative projects for its members. Since its refounding, NOMASiit has received much acclaim, including Student Chapter of the Year in 2018. Meanwhile, several of its members obtained fellowships through the NOMA Foundation, while the group placed third in NOMA’s national student design competition in 2019.

“We are so honored to have received this honorable mention. We have worked so hard these past few years to revive our NOMAS chapter, and we are so grateful for the continued support from NOMA as we grow each year,” says Nimah Mohiuddin, NOMASiit president. “NOMASiit is rooted in creating events that allow stories to be told, skills to be gained, and achievements to be recognized. We want to continue to be an organization that works to encourage and advocate for students in the CoA."
