PROF. SUSAN CONGER-AUSTIN RECEIVES FULBRIGHT GRANT

The Fulbright Specialist Program sends U.S. faculty and professionals to serve as expert consultants on curriculum, faculty development, institutional planning, and related subjects at academic institutions abroad for a period of 2 to 6 weeks.

Professor Susan Conger-Austin was chosen by Fulbright to work with the IE University in Segovia, Spain. Over a period of 4 weeks, she participated in an undergraduate design workshop, delivered a lecture, and served on numerous design juries. In addition to conducting an assessment of the curriculum, Professor Conger-Austin consulted with the administrators on best practices for faculty development and approaches to improve the plan of study.

Susan Conger-Austin leads a design studio, part of the IIT Architecture Cloud Studios, and teaches seminars on the design and development of specific neighborhoods within Chicago.  In addition, she directs her professional architectural practice in Chicago. As Principal of S.Conger Architects LLC, she has worked on institutional, commercial and residential projects throughout her career.

Since 2000, Professor Conger-Austin has collaborated with several universities around the world in educational workshops, seminars and exchanges. Previously, with the Fulbright Specialist Program, she taught in Chile and participated in international design workshops in Santiago. She has also given classes and lectured at the Escolar Da Cidade in Sao Paulo (Brazil) in their post-graduate program, focusing on urban issues in Brazil and in the United States.

Conger-Austin holds a degree in Economics and Art History from Stanford University and a Master's degree in Architecture from Princeton University.
