Block City: A City of LEGOS®

IIT hosted its annual LEGO® City day in Crown Hall on Saturday, July 8th, 2017. Using over 40,000 LEGO® bricks, participants built a city of LEGOs that spanned historic S. R. Crown Hall.

Parents and grandparents from around the Chicago area helped their children and grandchildren build a model city, miniature structures, objects, and towers. IIT students and alumni joined in to help local young people discover the fun of architecture and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) subjects.

Participants viewed and enjoyed LEGO® sculptures created by Rocco Buttliere (BAC ARCH '17). Buttliere is a world-renowned LEGO® artist and a recent graduate of Illinois Tech College of Architecture. IIT alumni were invited to come early for breakfast, mingling, and early access to LEGOs®.

This event was coordinated by IIT Alumni Association, the IIT College of Architecture, the Mies van der Rohe Society, and the Office of Student Access, Success, and Diversity Initiatives.
