College of Architecture to Be Part of the 25th Docomomo National Symposium

For its 25th edition, the 2021 Docomomo National Symposium: Crossroads of Modern America will be taking place in Chicago. But while it will be hosted virtually because of COVID-19, Illinois Institute of Technology’s College of Architecture will be one of the event’s hosts.

To kick off the symposium, sponsored by a range of partners in and outside of Chicago, Professor and Director of the Ph.D. Program in Architecture Michelangelo Sabatino will lead a virtual tour of the Illinois Tech’ Mies Campus entitled “Mies and More,” in which he discusses the history of the campus and surrounding Bronzeville neighborhood.

“In the Americas, Chicago occupies a unique role as a laboratory for architecture, landscape architecture, planning, and preservation,” says Sabatino, who is also a Docomomo U.S. Board member. “As such, it is an ideal city to host this year’s Docomomo National Symposium, even if only virtually.”

Docomomo U.S. is the United States chapter of Docomomo International, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the documentation and conservation of buildings that was founded in Chicago in 1999. For more information about the symposium or to register, visit Docomomo’s website.
