Fifth Annual LEGO City Day

IIT hosted its fifth annual LEGO City day in Crown Hall on Saturday, July 12th, 2014. The rain couldn't hold back the nearly one thousand participants who had been looking forward to the event since last year.

Parents and grandparents from around the Chicago area helped their kids and grandkids build a model city. IIT students and alumni joined in to help local young people discover the fun in architecture and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) subjects.

New to this year's event were: interactive "LEGO® Mindstorms" robot demonstrations by IIT alumna Manju Muralidharan Priya (MAS '14); a unique LEGO® programming activity for participants who wanted a hands-on, "unplugged," coding challenge; and a bigger and better "Skyscrapers, Highrises & Landmarks" LEGO® display by IIT architecture student and talented LEGO hobbyist Rocco Buttliere. IIT alumni were invited to come early for breakfast, mingling, and early access to LEGOs. We already can't wait for the IIT LEGO City 2015.

This event was coordinated by the IIT Boeing Scholars Academy (SASDI office), the IIT Alumni Association, and the Mies van der Rohe Society.
