A Summer Program for Middle School Students
The 2022 Explore Architecture summer program will only be offered in one session.
Dates: June 27-30
Workshop schedule: Monday - Thursday, 10am - 4pm
Eligibility: 6th - 8th grade (ages 11-14)
Explore Architecture is a one-week studio-based program designed to introduce middle school students to architecture and the associated professions. Students will be introduced to the profession through firm visits, field trips and exercises based in studio practice.
Each day will be comprised of a variety of segments, alternating less and more active exercises. We will discuss the profession and the history of architecture and integrate that with hands-on skill-building activities aimed at demonstrating how architects work. Students will sketch, build models, tour the campus, and see demonstrations of how 3-D printers, laser-cutters, CNC machines and various software are used in the profession.
The objective of the program is to give the students a basic understanding of the many facets of the architectural field, and help them to imagine what a career in architecture might be and if that would be of interest to them.
