2026 Peter Lindsay Schaudt Lecture: Patricia Algara
We invite you to join us on Wednesday, November 11 as we close out the fall lecture series with the annual Peter Schaudt lecture and our final guest, founding principal of award-winning BASE Landscape Architecture, Patricia Algara, a recognized leader in coalition building and community-driven design.
Algara creates landscapes that immerse children and families of all backgrounds and abilities in learning, exploration, and play. Born in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, Patricia engages Spanish-speaking communities as collaborators in projects from master plans to urban agriculture initiatives. Her community involvement and advocacy expand the boundaries of traditional landscape architecture.
A passionate advocate for quality and equity in the public realm, Patricia is the founder of El Merequetengue, the coalition of Latin American landscape architects, now in its sixth year, and the founder of With Honey in the Heart, a non-profit that creates healthy habitats for and educates people about pollinators.
Patricia is a Fellow of ASLA, and earned her Master of Landscape Architecture from UC Berkeley. She has taught at UC Berkeley and has lectured at many national and international universities and conferences. She has received national recognition for her design, outreach, education, and leadership work.
A beekeeper and apitherapist, she draws inspiration from bees, whose artistry and industriousness demonstrate that beauty, function, structure, and communication can and should coexist sweetly.
The Peter Schaudt Lecture, named in honor of former IIT campus landscape architect, Peter Schaudt, FASLA (1959-2015), annually invites landscape architects who have served as influential mentors of subsequent generations of designers through their professional and academic practices, and have an outstanding reputation working in collaboration with other disciplines. With the exception of Mies van der Rohe, no other person has contributed as much to the design of the IIT campus.
We thank the MLA+U Program and Director and Associate Professor Maria Villalobos Hernandez for curating this program annually for the community, and the American Society of Landscape Architects Illinois for generously co-hosting this year's event.
We look forward to having you join us for what we know will be an outstanding conversation. The lecture begins at 5 p.m. in Center Core.
