IIT Architecture

People are sitting and standing on a smooth, undulating white surface under a large, minimalistic structure with openings above. Natural light filters through, creating a serene atmosphere.
A group of people sitting inside a large, intricately designed geodesic dome made of white mesh. They are relaxing and chatting as evening approaches, with a clear blue sky in the background.
People sitting at a table with plates of food, drinks, and condiments. One person is writing with a pen, and a few empty glasses and a bowl of calamari are visible. The tablecloth has sketches, and the atmosphere suggests a casual dining setting.
Two people are on a large, smooth, oval-shaped stone sculpture in a concrete-walled space. One is sitting with crossed legs, and the other is lying down, both appearing relaxed and engaged in their activities.
A group of people stand around a table filled with architectural models in a bright, industrial-style room. They are engaged in conversation, with some observing the detailed white models closely.

Study Away Opportunities

The College offers a wide range of options for students to learn through travel, both domestically and internationally. The college’s programs are organized and taught by our own professors or faculty from our partner institutions. Our objective is to provide an opportunity for each architecture student to participate in at least one off-campus experience over the course of their degree program at IIT.

Recent for-credit summer courses have provided intensive study tours of Scandinavia, Europe, Japan, and the United States (an option developed especially for our many international students). Advanced design studios often include travel as part of their syllabus including recent trips to the Middle East, Tokyo, Mexico and the US.

The B.Arch. curriculum incorporates a full semester (or academic year) abroad during the fourth year. Students can also participate in international programs hosted by our partner institutions, or forge out on their own international experience in external programs.

College of Architecture students participate in field trips in all studio courses, including visits to project sites, construction sites, and fabrication firms.
