Commit, Then Figure It Out: Architecture as Adventure

Tom Kundig

Upper Center Core, S. R. Crown Hall

5 p.m.

What is the pathway to success as an architect? Renowned architect Tom Kundig will provide insight into his decades-long practice during a College of Architecture lecture titled “Commit, Then Figure It Out: Architecture as Adventure,” beginning at 5 p.m. on April 2 in S. R. Crown Hall’s Upper Center Core.

Kundig is principal, owner, and founder of global design practice Olson Kundig. He is one of the most widely recognized American architects and has spent more than four decades crafting award-winning architecture across six continents. Today, his portfolio spans private homes, sports facilities and venues, wineries, hospitality destinations, museums, and everything in between.

Many of the buildings that Olson Kundig designs share similarities with the Modernist style that Ludwig Mies van der Rohe made famous: discipline, humanity, and authenticity. The practice, which has grown to more than 350 architects, has offices in Seattle and New York City, and it opened a Chicago office in the Fulton Market neighborhood in 2024.
