Four distinct projects completed within the past two years by newly practicing architects in Central and South America have been selected as finalists in the 5th cycle of the Mies Crown Hall Americas Prize for Emerging Practice (MCHAP.emerge).
MCHAP is a biennial prize that acknowledges the best built works of architecture in the Americas. The Cycle 5 awards considers projects completed in 2022 and 2023, and MCHAP.emerge recognizes projects designed by architects who have been in practice for 10 years or less.
MCHAP.emerge finalists were chosen from more than 50 nominees, representing a wide range of building types, scales, materiality, and site conditions in which the next generation of designers are working.
The finalists include:
The finalists will convene at the inaugural MCHAP.emerge Conference on Critical Practice, which will take place September 25–27, 2024, at S. R. Crown Hall. The winning project will be chosen during the conference’s evening ceremony on September 27. Full programming schedule and registration can be found online at www.mchap.co/.
The summit will explore a number of themes including ecology, technology, agency, and generational shifts, featuring dialogue between Illinois Institute of Technology faculty and students, this cycle’s jury and finalists, distinguished invited participants, and the International MCHAP Network. The Network consists of professionals, academics, and practitioners who advance MCHAP's international mission to recognize and honor excellence in built works of architecture in the Americas. Members include past MCHAP jurors, finalists, and nominees; university administrators and professors; and others who have been affiliated with the Prize since its founding in 2012.
