Architecture Student Elected to Leadership Role with National Organization
An Illinois Institute of Technology College of Architecture student has been elected to serve as treasurer and secretary of the American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS).
Andrew Nichols (B. ARCH., M.HPB. 4th Year) was elected in early January 2026 to the dual leadership positions of AIAS, which includes roughly 150 chapters, each representing an architecture school across the globe. AIAS is a nonprofit, student-run organization dedicated to advancing student interests in the profession. Nichols will assume his new role on July 16 and serve through July 2027.
“AIAS is the largest organization in the world representing architecture students, and I’m incredibly honored to be given this trust,” Nichols says.
The secretary of the organization records the proceedings of the board of directors and various subcommittees, while the treasurer oversees its funds. Nichols has been treasurer of the College of Architecture’s AIAS chapter for three years and has also served on the national organization’s finance committee as well as its development task force, which focuses on industry partnerships.
“My three years as Treasurer of IIT’s AIAS chapter has been great training for this new position,” says Nichols. “I anticipate it will be a valuable resource for me in helping the organization respond to the many challenges our profession is facing.”
