A Summer Program for High School Students

If you are currently enrolled in high school and looking to the future, you may be interested in IIT’s summer architecture program: Experiment in Architecture. This two-week program is designed to introduce high school students to the profession of architecture.
"Experiment in Architecture"
Experiment in Architecture is a two-week studio designed to introduce high school students to the architectural profession. By shedding light on the rigorous and innovative nature of the practice, students learn to see challenges and constraints as opportunities and advantages.
Through iterative exercises and informed seminars, students will be immersed in design-oriented thinking that introduces them to architectural terms, concepts, and forms of visual representation — all the while building towards a final project. Students will engage in daily discussions with practitioners and faculty, complete design charrettes through hand drafting and 2D/3D modeling software, and be exposed to design critiques through formal reviews.
The program will provide an awareness of the diversity of career paths available to architects. Students will produce portfolio worthy projects that will be displayed in an online exhibition at the conclusion of the program.
Program Cost
2023 program cost: $1,595, $100 deposit due at time of registration (daytime/non-residential); $2,395, $100 deposit due at time of registration (residential, on-campus room and board included)
Registration and Fees
Payment: For programs that are not paid in full at the time of registration, a $100 deposit is required. Failure to submit the final payment on or before May 31, 2023, will result in the registration being canceled and the deposit forfeited.
Deposit: All deposits are fully refundable until May 15, 2023. After this date, if final payments are not received, the deposit will be forfeited. All deposits are applied to the final cost of a program.
Refund Policy: Full (100 percent) refunds of final payments are provided until 14 days before the start of a program. Partial refunds (50 percent) are provided within 13 days before a program start date. No refunds are provided on or after the start of a program.
A limited number of scholarships are available to the program for students requiring financial assistance; to inquire, please contact precollege@iit.edu.
Application Requirements
Applicants will be asked to upload the following documents in order to complete the online application:
- High school transcript
- Short essay of 250 words (one page, double-spaced) describing why you are interested in architecture and your goals for the Experiment in Architecture program
