McKinley Park Culture Hub

Alina Tompert
B Arch, 3rd Year Spring, 2014

This project was about exploring social architecture. Starting from urban research and data gathering to explore what the McKinley Park community needs, I integrated the industrial history of the site through the architecture of the building, and the community needs through the building programs: Learning Center, Cafe, and Community Garden. These three work together to support each other and all members of the surrounding neighborhoods through education, nourishment, and social interaction. The building's design allows it to remain active and green throughout the cold Chicago winters.
