Welcome Frank Barkow, world-renowned architect and co-founder of Barkow Leibinger, to a lecture in the Center Core of S. R. Crown Hall at 5 p.m. on March 25. He is a design and research leader in architecture and has shared his ideas in the classroom at Princeton University School of Architecture, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL), and more.
Barkow Leibinger, founded in 1993, has offices in New York and Berlin. It places emphasis on materiality and how it is transformed by digital and analogue tools and technologies, which underscores much of the practice’s experimentation.
The practice’s portfolio ranges from the design of a 44-story Estrel Tower Berlin to the TRUMPF Smart Factory Chicago, which showcases how to meld cutting edge technology with outstanding design and quality. The building, which draws inspiration from Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, won an American Institute of Architects Honor Award for Architecture in 2019.
