Adriaenssens, a professor of civil and environmental engineering at Princeton University, focuses her research on lightweight surface systems and how they can be optimized and realized to interact with extreme structural or environmental loading. She has used this framework to successfully innovate structural and architectural systems ranging from macroscale adaptive shading shell devices to large‐scale storm surge membrane barriers.
Adriaenssens is highly regarded in the industry, recently being named a fellow of the Structural Engineering Institute of the American Society of Civil Engineers and chairs the organization’s Aesthetics in Design Committee. She is the co-editor of the International Journal of Space Structures.
