Alejandro Saldaña Perales is an architect currently performing his PhD in Architecture at the CoA. He received his B.A. in Architecture (2011) with honours at the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM) in Monterrey, México. He earned his Master of Science in Architecture (2018) at the CoA with his thesis titled "The Latin American Export: Implementing Latin American urban strategies to redevelop and reconstruct Bronzeville. He is a Vinci Scholar and his PhD research deals with the politics of private parks in the Near South Side of Chicago. He worked in a number of firms in both México and the United States, as well as the privilege to be the founder of his own private firm back in Monterrey. He has taught social sciences at the Prepa Tec CEGL (High school), and directed the Fourth Year Architecture Studios at the Centro de Estudios Superiores de Diseño de Monterrey (CEDIM). His architectural work includes residential, commercial, and institutional facilities in México. Some of his work was performed in direct collaboration with the government of the State of Nuevo León for which he was awarded with the State Youth Award and the Monterrey Tech Architecture Award. Previous research projects led his work to be included in the Mexican Pavilion at the 2016 Venice Biennale of Architecture. Saldaña Perales was a guest architecture and urban critic at the State of Nuevo León radio station (102.1 FM) and hosted his own Architecture radio show at WIIT 88.9 FM, has collaborated with the Mies van der Rohe Society, the Chicago Architecture Center, the 2017 Chicago Architecture Biennial, the Mies Crown Hall Americas Prize (MCHAP) 2018, various other local institutions, and is a student member of the Society of Architectural Historians.
